Mocksville, NC—Family Promise, the nation’s leading nonprofit working to end family homelessness, awarded $5,000 to 35 Family Promise Affiliates to improve technology optimization—including hardware, software, and connectivity. The funding will improve technology access and capacity for Affiliate staff and the individuals served in Family Promise programs. Affiliates were selected through a competitive, national RFP process.

Working in over 200 communities nationwide, the Family Promise network needs technology solutions that are creative and up to date. This funding will allow Affiliates to better assist clients and families through the intake process, to track data and family housing successes, to communicate with donors, to engage volunteers, and to support staff through remote or hybrid work.

“One of our core objectives is to use technology to serve more families more effectively,” said Michael Timmons, Family Promise’s Chief Technology Officer. “These grants go a long way in helping Affiliates achieve that objective.”

The Smith* family lost their home when their landlord sold the property, forcing them to quickly move in with a friend. This “friend” ended up stealing many of the Smith’s personal belongings and money they had saved. Thanks to generous donors like you, Family Promise of Davie County was there to help. The family entered our Transitional Housing program where they were given temporary housing and case management. Within two and half months, they found permanent housing, increased their savings, and received furniture and household items for their new home. It has been almost one year since this family graduated from our Transitional Housing program and they are still housed and doing really well.

“Thank you so much for everything you have done for us. We don’t know where we would be without y’all. You went above and beyond to help us out. We are thankful we came to y’all for help.” -Transitional Housing Graduate Family

amily Promise takes a holistic approach to addressing the issue of family homelessness in our community.

  • We provide financial assistance to prevent homelessness and divert families from entering shelter. On average it costs $710 to prevent homelessness/divert a family from shelter.

  • We provide temporary shelter for families that have nowhere else to go. It takes about 79 days for families in our shelter and transitional housing programs to secure independent, permanent housing.

  • We provide ongoing stabilization support to ensure families maintain their housing. 90% of the families that go through our programs are still stably housed one year later.

Our calls requesting assistance are up 137% from November of 2020 to now. Families in Davie County need our services now more than ever before.

Will you help? Your donation empowers families. It builds community. It creates solutions. It keeps parents together with their children. It offers shelter. It is a key piece of the puzzle that gets families home!

Family Promise to Host Summer Sleep-Out to Raise Awareness for Family Homelessness in America

Mocksville, NC– June 26, 2021 —Family Promise, the nation’s leading organization fighting family homelessness, is hosting a summer sleep-out event on June 26, 2021. Night Without a Bed is a social media challenge that raises awareness for families experiencing homelessness.

We ask participants to sleep anywhere without a bed: cars, a tent, a treehouse, living room floor, a couch and use the hashtag #NightWithoutABed to post a video blog or photo with a short blog entry to describe their experiences. In the run-up to the event, participants will challenge another friend to participate in #NightWithoutABed or make a donation to Family Promise.

Every year in America, over 3 million children experience homelessness. These children are 8-9 times more likely to repeat a grade, 3 times more likely to be placed in special education programs, and 7 times more likely to attempt suicide. 42% will drop out of school at some point and 47% suffer from anxiety, depression, or withdrawal.

“Family homelessness was a national crisis long before the pandemic, but the health and economic challenges of the past year have put many more children at risk of experiencing homelessness,” said Cara Bradshaw, Chief Impact Officer. “On June 26th, we are asking the community to come together for Night Without a Bed and raise awareness for an issue that is often invisible.”
